Monty Python and the Holy Grail

A movie about the Holy Grail ought to be a serious dramatic film, right? Not necessarily. This British classic comedy film tackled the misadventures of King Arthur as he led his knights in search of the Holy Grail. Encounters with rude French soldiers, a three-headed giant, and a rabbit make the movie watchers roll in excitement. Snide remarks, anachronisms, and looks behind the scenes all add a degree of hilariousness to the film. This is so popular that if you look carefully in one of the Harry Potter films, you would see Dudley Dursley watching a rerun of the show.

Blues Brother

The Blues Brothers were on a mission, with only 11 days to do so. They needed to save an orphanage by obtaining $5,000. So they loaded on the gas and brought the band together, and started performing. It was a good plan. What could go wrong, right? As it turned out, all sorts of things went haywire. The combination of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as the titular brothers was said to be cinematic gold by most critics. Had Belushi not passed on early, we probably should be seeing more of him. The cast was also exceptional as it included the phenomenal Carrie Fischer.

Tommy Boys

Taking over the family business is no easy task. Finding his father dead and later on knowing the bank would not want to issue a business loan; Tommy embarks on a journey across the country in a bid to save the company he inherited. It was, of course, difficult to fill his father’s shoes, but his father’s assistant was helping him. The movie is full of snide remarks, and the excellent rapport between the secretary and Tom was exceptional, contributing to the success of this movie.

Caddyshack

No one would have thought that combining golf, a gopher and Chevy Chase would be as fun as Caddyshack. It turned out to be an excellent movie. Chevy played the role of a rich person who always wants the ladies. Meanwhile, Michael O’Keefe played Danny Noonan, who was Chevy’s caddie who supported himself through college while obtaining his degree. Complications arise with the other character, like Judge Smails and his rather popular niece, Lacy Underall.

Doctor Strangelove, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Stanley Kubrick’s creations had always been known to be the best. This movie released in 1964 with a mouthful of a title is seen as a comedy, but movie reviewers say it does very little justice to the film because it achieves more than making people laugh. Centered on a holocaust theme, the movie presented serious issues that we can relate to in the 21st century. It was given credit as among the top political satires of the time.

The ‘Burbs

Tom Hanks lovers will find a treasure in “The ‘Burbs”. Many movie critics say that this is perhaps among the top performances of the celebrated actor. This black comedy movie focuses on the story in the suburbs, its environment and its more often than not eccentric residents. Living in the suburbs has its advantages, like being able to ask a neighbor to do roof repair, but it also has its disadvantages, as clearly depicted in the movie.

The Big Lebowski

Do crime and comedy mix well? As it turned out, they do. In this crime comedy movie, Jeffrey, “the Dude”, Lebowski was assaulted by two goons, but he was the wrong man, and there the adventure began. A kidnapping happens, where the perpetrators demanded a sizable amount of investment money, and in a strange twist, the real Lebowski hired the “The Dude” to deal with them. Plot twists make the movie fun and interesting to watch.
